Female Fertility Testing
Our Manhattan Beach fertility center explains female fertility testing
For one in eight U.S. couples, infertility creates a roadblock to parenting dreams. Dr. Mark Rispler and Dr. Joshua J. Berger understand the pain and frustration our patients face while struggling to get pregnant. In order to help you conceive, your doctor must determine the underlying problems impeding conception. He begins with female fertility testing.
Infertility basics from our Manhattan Beach fertility center physician
In general, female infertility accounts for about 33% of cases. During your first visit to our Manhattan Beach fertility center, your doctor will take a detailed health history and look for any red flags. Additionally, he will want to discuss birth control use, sexual history, family background and overall lifestyle and health history to get a complete picture. If you have tracked ovulation, this information can also help identify any issues.
A brief look at female fertility testing
Once our Manhattan Beach fertility center physician has your detailed medical history, he will schedule initial tests. To cover all the bases, your doctor will also suggest a semen analysis to rule out any male fertility factors. We may need to perform certain tests on specific days of your cycle to gather accurate information.
Typically, we order the following tests for our female patients; however, not every patient will need all available tests.
- Blood work Because hormone imbalances, diminished ovarian reserve and ovulation dysfunction can disrupt your cycles and impact your ability to conceive, your doctor will order a full panel of specialized blood tests to look at hormone levels such as progesterone, follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), and estradiol.
- Physical evaluation Our Manhattan Beach fertility center physician will perform a pelvic exam to identify any abnormalities involving the cervix, uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes.
- Hysterosalpingogram During this test, dye is injected through the cervix into the uterus and fallopian tubes to reveal blockages and other potential problems.
- Ultrasound Your doctor will assess uterine lining thickness, evaluate follicle development and check the condition of the uterus and ovaries.
