As part of a detailed fertility evaluation, your doctor will likely recommend fertility testing for gay couples so that he can determine the best way to help you grow your family. During your first visit, we will review medical histories, explain basic fertility tests and schedule preliminary testing. Gay couples will need an egg donor and a gestational carrier to have a biological child. Before moving forward with these options, the doctor will need to identify any potential fertility issues that could make conception more difficult.
The doctor will generally order a semen analysis for both partners. This simple test will measure the number, size, shape and motility of the sperm to make sure everything looks normal. If the tests reveal any areas of concern, our Manhattan Beach fertility center may recommend in vitro fertilization (IVF) with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Our team may make a referral to a local urologist (a male fertility specialist) for further evaluation in some cases.
